Ijaw Monitoring Group, has raised the alarm that the South-South geo-political zone has "the highest number of school drop-outs in Nigeria."

According to the IMG, 90 percent of South-South citizens are not rich enough to give their children quality education in private universities.

While urging corporate bodies, old students of the universities, international community, religious leaders to invest in public universities, IMG challenged the Federal Government “to allocate all monies recovered from late Gen. Sani Abacha's loot and other recovered public funds on education and health sectors."

The Ijaw Monitoring Group has also conferred the Man of the year 2013 on Academic Staff Union of Univeristy (ASUU). In a statement signed by Comrade Joseph Evah on behalf of the Group, the ijaw saluted the patriotic spirit of ASUU members on their efforts to revive the collapsed educational system in Nigeria, adding that the direct talk option with Mr. President restored confidence between the Federal Government and ASUU which led to the resolution of the crisis.
"ASUU won this battle for our children at the time Nelson Mandela, the spirit behind ASUU strength was departing mother earth. ASUU, like Mandela refused to be blackmailed and shifted ground on what is a just demand for the future generation. It is on record that ASUU has been battling every government right from military era to recover the lost glory of our university education system. So, for a group of professionals today to put aside religion, tribal and political sentiments to fight for national interest is very rare; yet ASUU prove to be the only man standing.
