Often times, many people are talented with different skills, which they could use for productive purposes but they keep roaming the streets looking for white collar jobs.

Experts have therefore canvassed the need for individuals to maximise the potential that they have because by this, they can become successful entrepreneurs and set themselves free from the endless search for paid employment.

If you have done a few design works for which you have received commendation, this may require a little development to keep you in good business.

Mr. Ovie John is the Executive Officer of O.J Graphic World, who is based in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

John, who learnt this job from his uncle, has continued to grow his business. Through this, he maintains his family.

According to him, ”Graphic design is something I love to do, if you have passion for it and do it diligently, you will have many customers and the sky will just be the limit for you.”

John emphasises the need for people to be creative and turn their skills into profitable ventures.

He observes that often times, some people stay at home for years with the excuse of not getting jobs which makes them to dwell in poverty.

The O.J boss notes that there are many things that a person can do to make a living instead of waiting for someone to employ him.

A creative and enterprising ability, he says, will reduce the rate of unemployment in the country and help to alleviate hardship and poverty.

The Chief Executive Officer, Fessy Concept, Mr. Festus Shoyoye, is a Lagos based graphic designer who employs unique qualities to stand out among others.

Having discovered the talent early, he was determined to become an employer of labour. He went into the business after his schooling.

Festus makes beautiful designs and prints, according to the requests of different customers on the objects they want.

For instance, he says, ”Many corporate organisations may request to brand their caps, T-shirts, pen, umbrellas and other gift items in large numbers. We design these unique and lasting prints on them bearing the logos of these firms.”

He added that individuals who are also celebrating different events such as wedding ceremonies, birthday parties, naming and chieftaincy titles want their gifts branded.

Shoyoye says, ”Graphic design is a relevant job that offers satisfaction to different individual and corporate organisations in the society; it is highly demanded in the economy.”

According to him, when Soyoye started the business, he concentrated on doing colour separations, making handbills, posters, business cards and invitation cards among others.

As the business developed, he included sign writing, general printing, provision of company seal, rubber stamp, data stamp and stationeries among others.

To start this business, Festus says, an individual does not need huge capital if he does not yet have much money on him.

He says that the most vital requirement to start the business is having the creative skills, and getting some little equipment for the job.

The individual must, however, be hardworking and efficient enough to meet the needs of his customers timely. This, stresses, is germane to the success of the business.

As the business grows, he adds, the individual will have enough money to get an office and employ more hands to work for him.

He says, ”Initially, when I started, I did not start in the big way because of the required capital. Notwithstanding, I did not put money first, I worked for many people and when they saw my job and they were satisfied with it, they introduced others to me. Most of my clients today are through referrals.”

Festus ensures that he provides the finished works timely and delivers them to his customers‘ doorstep at their convenience.

His works, he notes, speaks volumes about his style. This satisfies the clients and makes them to always come to him whenever they want a graphic designer.

Today, he has clients of different status ranging from individuals, banks, schools, with other big organisations that would not look elsewhere to do their graphic designs except they bring such to him.

According to him, putting customers‘ satisfaction first, he has been able to win their confidence and is also building his fortunes from this job.
