Top Delta officials in Dubai for ruling on Ibori's extradition

Top officials of Delta State Government and prominent politicians from within and outside the state have travelled to Dubai , United Arab Emirates , in solidarity with the former Governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, ahead of Sunday’s court decision on his extradition to the United Kingdom.



The PUNCH gathered on Thursday that many senior officials of the Delta State Government had shifted base to Dubai as at press time on Thursday.



Similarly, some Delta lawmakers in the state House of Assembly and National Assembly as well as local government chairmen in the state have also departed for Dubai to solid with Ibori.



Check by our correspondent on Thursday, further showed that some senators and members of the House of Representatives have arrived in Dubai to fraternise and map out strategies with their benefactor ahead of the decisive pronouncement by the Dubai Court.



Findings by our correspondent revealed that the presiding judge concluded the hearing last week and reserved ruling till October 17.



A member of the Delta State cabinet and a member of DTHA confirmed to our correspondent, in a telephone interview on Thursday, that the state officials moved to Dubai in solidarity with the former governor of the state.



They said the action was a measure of Ibori’s political relevance and leadership qualities despite his ordeal.



The Commissioner, who craved anonymity said, “We have moved to Dubai to stand by our political leader, who is being framed-up for corruption.



“So many government officials and political leaders are here (Dubai) from within and outside Delta State and we are going to remain here (Dubai) until the fate of our leader is decided by the Dubai Court on Sunday.”
