IJAW MONITORING GROUP CONGRATULATES WESTERN IZONS ON THE COMMISSIONING OF THE BOMADI-TUOMO

2008-10-10

The Ijaw Monitoring Group rejoices with the good people of western Ijaw today as they witness the dream of their father come true to have a road in the swamp of the Delta.

We wish to recall that in 1974, the Ogbemudia Government survey, designed and signed a contract for the Oil belt from Ojobo to Bomadi and Gbekebo villages to link up the oil city of Ogulagha and awarded the contract to Edok Ete Mandilas. The work did not see the light of the day because the late George Inineh who took over as Mid-Western State Governor after the outside world until former Governor James Ibori of Delta state built the bridge- the River Facados at Bomadi and which Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has taken the advantage to link up the hinter-land for development which is very commendable. Even the very first step to like up Tuomo to adjourning villages has increased economic activities in the area. We hope that the flag-off of Tamigbe Axis today will lead to the realization of the Pjobo-Gebkebo- Ogulagha road project linking Bayelsa, Delta and Edo States, that is, the Ijaw communities.

Many western Ijaw wanted to see this project in their life time but died without witnessing this great project of their dream we Congratulate today living witnesses and salute the spirit of the dead for their prayers. IMG strongly feels that a well funded and well managed NDDC will definitely deliver. Niger Deltans should jealously guide NDDC the way the Northerners are jealously guiding the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), because FCDA is the cornerstone of northern region development. We should be prepared to fight individual or group of person who want to loot the treasury of the commission.

We have decided to use this opportunity to salute the commission for giving our youths, men and women the opportunity to acquire skill training in Lagos, Sapele, Port Harcourt and other places to be self-reliant and resist violence but we want to warn the commission not to send our youths to south Africa for non-violent training. This training can successfully take place here in Nigeria. The amount of money meant for South Africa can increase the number of intake in Nigeria. The South Africa idea is for fraudulent and greedy officials in the commission who are only interested in making dollars from the programme.

IMG salutes Ijaw freedom fighters as the Tuomo road commissioning today coincide with the mobilization of Niger Deltans by IMG to the first free Henry Okah world press conference organized by Human Right Groups and civil societies in Lagos. This is a clear indication of the acceptance of the Niger Delta struggle in the spiritual realms.

We wish to recall that the IMG mobilized hundreds of Niger deltas students to Abuja, two years ago to protest the trial of Asari Dokubo at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Niger Deltans today must unite for the sake of our children yet unborn.
