Men of the Oyo State Police Command are currently on the trail of a middle-aged man, who allegedly shot his two children at a close range during a disagreement on school fees’ payment.

Our correspondent learnt on Tuesday that the suspect, identified simply as Rashidi, was said to have fled immediately he committed the crime at about 10pm.

According to a police source, Rashidi was said to have been enraged by the inability of his children to produce an evidence of the payment of the school fees he had earlier given to them.

He suspected that the children -27-year-old Ahmed and 14-year-old Aminat- might have diverted the school fees to other means.

Not satisfied with the children’s explanation on their inability to produce the receipts, Rashidi was said to have seized his dane gun in rage and shot at the two children.

Aminat reportedly sustained serious injury on her waist from the impact of the gunshot.

The loud sound from the gun woke up neighbours, who quickly mobilised to rush the victim to the hospital.

During the confusion that ensued, the suspect allegedly escaped from the house.

When the case was reported at Agugu Police Station, the Divisional Crime Officer 1, Mr. Ayoola Olawale, an assistant superintendent of police, led some detectives to the scene.

While the dane gun was recovered, the suspect was nowhere to be found.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ms. Olabisi Okuwobi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Tuesday.

Okuwobi, a deputy superintendent of police, said that Aminat was responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

She said that the command would leave no stone unturned to ensure that the suspect was arrested and brought to book.

She warned members of the public to learn to always resolve their differences within the ambit of the law.
