COMMUNITY GOES TOUGH ON MILITANTS

2008-10-17

Warri-the people of Obontie community in Sapele Council Area of Delta state, yesterday, said they are now prepared to take their destiny into their hands since the government has failed to protect them from unprovoked and unceasing abduction and eventual killings of it natives from their neighbours, just as they have given the Ikerensan and Ugbukurusu communities 14 days to produce one Richard Tedeye dead or alive.

Similarly, three militant groups in the region have also issued their last warning to both communities to produce the said Richard Tedeye or be prepared to face their combined wrath.

In a “Save Our Soul” petition signed by the Olare-Aja (head) of the Obontie community, Pa John Ogbolaja and addressed to the Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, the community said since the supreme court sitting in Calabar in 1925 granted them the right of ownership of their land, militants from Ugbukurusu and Ikerensan have continued to invade and destroyed the community just as they have also kidnapped and killed their sons.

The Olare-Aja said: “We can no longer tolerate and watch with our hands folded while our sons and daughter in exile are being haunted, captured and murdered without, traces of their corpses.”

Spokesman for the three militant groups commander Temisanren Ugborugho said they issued a warning before now and at the expiration of the said date and Tedeye is not produce they would take far-reaching actions to put an end to the unprovoked molestation and killings if their kinsmen in the area.
