LAGOS - THE Ijaw Monitoring Group has described the former National Security Ad-viser, late General Owoye Andrew Azazi as one of the greatest stars to emerge from the Niger Delta region. In a tribute signed by Comrade Joseph Evah, Coordinator of the group to mark the first anniversary of the death of the late general, who died in a helicopter crash in Bayelsa State on December 15, 2012 after attending a burial ceremony in the state, the Ijaw group stated that the people of Niger Delta were proud that the region produced one of the world's first class military officers. "Azazi's place in world military history has proved that despite our harsh environment, we are able to provide intellectual people that can compete with any brain in the globe. As Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Defence Staff, General Officer Commanding (GOC), National Security Adviser (NAS) and first Ijaw four-star general, he carried the Ijaw spirit of boldness and courage to serve the Nigerian nation and the same fearlessness led him to direct the army to rebuild Ayakoromor town in Burutu LGA of Delta State illegally destroyed by the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The desire to serve his people at the grassroot inspired him to humbly accept the chairmanship of Bayelsa State flood victims Relief committee to provide scour for the communities."
