World renowned evangelist, Billy Graham, is dead.

Billy, who was one of the most influential preachers of the 20th century was aged 99.

A spokesman for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association told the British Broadcasting Corporation that he died at his home in Montreat, North Carolina, on Wednesday.

Also, his son, Franklin Graham, confirmed the death in a tweet.

“My father was once asked, “Where is Heaven?” He said, “Heaven is where Jesus is and I am going to Him soon!” This morning, he departed this world into eternal life in heaven, prepared by the Lord Jesus Christ-the Saviour of the world-whom He proclaimed for 80 years,” he wrote.

After becoming one of the best-known promoters of Christianity in the US, Graham embarked on his global mission with an event in London in 1954.

In a tweet, US President, Donald Trump, called him a special man.

He said, “The Great Billy Graham is dead. There was nobody like him! He will be missed by Christians and all religions. A very special man.”

Former President Barack Obama said he was a guide to millions of Americans.

“Billy Graham was a humble servant who prayed for so many – and who, with wisdom and grace, gave hope and guidance to generations of Americans,” he wrote on Twitter.
