KANO — Elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has faulted the position of the United States government and leaders of the European Union, EU, on President Umaru Yar’Adua’s ailment as “double speak and unfortunate.”

The former Chief Liaison Officer to former President Shehu Shagari, in a statement in Kano, weekend, explained that the position was part of conscious effort by the Western power to ensure the disintegration of Nigeria.

According the statement by Yakasai, “the meeting by the Western powers in London in which they came up with this position reveals hypocrisy of the highest order. History has proven that many leaders of such countries suffered from various illnesses while in office but nobody compelled them to relinquish their offices.”

Yakasai cited world leaders that include the World War leader of US, Thomas Wilson, elected in 1913 but was struck with stroke in 1919 and remained in office till the expiration of his tenure in 1923.

The octogenerian politician lamented that the international conspiracies had caught up with our former leaders who had been recruited for the “diabolical design to throw the country in chaos.

“The formation of Eminent Elders Group headed by our respected and revered former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, is bedevilled with imbalances. Of the 14 members of the committee, only two are from the South, the rest are from the North and eight of the number are Christians while six are Muslims. I don’t believe that this imbalance is accidental,” Yakasai said.

He cautioned the Federal MPs to always strive on the rule of law and allow their action to be guided by their mandate and resist the temptation of being dragged on issues that tend to compromise their mandate.

“Our legislators who swore to protect and defend our constitution should always be alive to the grand design being hatched against Nigeria and should examine issues properly so that they are not used as tools in the hands of foreign detractors,” the elder statesman warned.

He commended the Judiciary for standing up for the country at the moment of need, stressing that the recent verdict by Justice Abutu on transfer of power renewed confident on Nigeria project.

February 1, 2010 at 10:13 pmIt is one thing to usurp power and hold on to it, but it another thing to lead. The North cannot lead. For the past 60 yrs their sheepish leadership has proved they cannot lead even if they control all the resources in this world.
