The Ijaw monitoring group (IMG) has commended the minister of solid mineral and stell, Mrs. Diezani Madueke and the Acting Executive Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mr. P.Z. Aginighan, for supporting the 2008/2009 free deworming carried out by national association of Ijaw Female Students (NAIFS) which took place in the creeks recently.
In a statement signed by Comrade Joseph Evah on behalf of IMG, the group stated that the deworming for children in the creek witnessed the large turnout of Ijaw Female students from Northern Nigeria because of the special interest of Mrs. Diezani Madueke for the programme adding that the sponsorship of Ijaw female students from the north for the humanitarian work has exposed the students to know the homeland better.
“The programme was a huge success as we are grooming our future mothers to appreciate community service in a very difficult environment. The last day of the programme which was end of year party for all Ijaw students including male and female with Alhaji Dokubo Asari, as the Guest speaker, was a turning point in the lives of the further leaders because Asari really lamented the criminalization of the struggle and urged the future leaders to take a stand to redeem the battered image of the struggle.
Comrade Evah, also said the meeting of student from all campuses during Xmas and New Year period will be encouraged annually.
The national association of Ijaw female students (NAIFS) is an affiliate of Ijaw monitoring group and founded by the IMG coordinator in 2004.
