Jonathan extends NNPC GMD's tenure

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the extension of the tenure of the Group Managing Director NNPC, Mr. Austin Oniwon, beyond April 2011.

A statement by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Dieziani Allison-Madueke, said the move was “to allow for continuity and full implementation of critical government initiatives in the Oil and Gas Industry, including passing the Petroleum Industry Bill.”

Oniwon, who hails from Kogi State, was first appointed on May 16, 2010. Alison-Madueke added that Jonathan also approved the re-assignment of the Group Executive Director (Exploration and Production), Mr. Philip O. Chukwu, to Group Executive Director (Refining and Petrochemicals) of NNPC. Also, the Managing Director Warri Refining and Petrochemicals Company Limited, Mr. Andrew Yakubu, has been named the Group Executive Director (Exploration and Production) of the NNPC.

The Group General Manager Gas Master Plan, Dr. Oluseyi Ige, was appointed the Group Executive Director (Gas and Power) of NNPC while the Group General Manager and Senior Technical Assistant to the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mr Haruna Momoh, has been appointed as the managing director of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Ltd. The General Manager, Projects of NNPC, Mr. Chike Egbuji, was named the Executive Secretary, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency.

The Group General Manager, Corporate Planning & Strategy, Dr. Timothy Effiong Okon was also named the Corporate Coordinator, Corporate Planning & Strategy while a new Group Directorate, known as the Business Development Directorate, was created.

The new directorate subsumes the functions of the current Special Services Directorate. Mr. Aminu Baba-Kusa has been deployed to head the new directorate.
